City of God
"Cidade de Deus" is not only a blow to the consciences asleep resolved without moral recommendations, with the nakedness of poetry and the strength of the facts, but a dense metaphor for society today, although Brazil has set in the grandeur of universal validity. The film bears the same name as a large slum in Rio de Janeiro created in the 60s as rash humanity free solution to meet the need for housing in a city doomed to a disproportionate growth and unmanageable. A few years after its construction, Cidade de Deus was already a hell, a suffocating and also one of the most dangerous in the world. In this context takes the story that this movie with a storyline set by the avatar of two young grown in the streets, in almost identical conditions and circumstances, however, two very different outcomes. One of them will survive become fatally drug trafficker and eventually work in occupations below the lumpen. The other escape the life he has touched the goal of taking refuge in your camera to capture the reality that without makeup or retouching. Both of them know what violence is, what is life for the sole purpose of survival. It is a hard film, uncomfortable to talk about our cities, hypocrisy, misery. Ourselves.
